MBFWCT | Emerging Designers
23 July 2012
While returning fashion heavy-weights are no stranger to the runaway, to an emerging designer, the fashion platform is rather foreign. The strong bond between African Fashion International (AFI) and Cape Town fashion council (CTFC) continues to bring you a showcase emerging young talent at the inaugural MBFWCT.
The Emerging Designer showcase will feature five designers chosen by the AFI panel of leaders in the fashion media, clothing and textile industry, with the criteria set as the designers’ ability to shape their fashion brands into sustainable business platforms. The five chosen designers are:
Pumeza Mekuto of Black Coal Clothing, who's collection plays around the colour palette of reds, blues and mustards with denim forming a strong part of the collection, Black coal will also introduce the nautical menswear collection.
Celeste Lee Arendse of Selfi,Think Pastel greens and soft nudes inspired by the 20th century art movement with a play of primary colours.
Robyn Victor of August Clothing, Soft muted tones, earthy desert landscapes and creamy sunsets. The collection is a constriction of some sort, youthful boho chic meets elegant sophistication, masculine meets soft feminine touches and relaxed yet unrestricted.
Tarien Malherbe of Non-European, Bow-ties, pastels and play of colour makes an exciting experiment in the construction of different garments.
Maloti Mothoni of Strato, Sporty luxe in an array of bright colours and pastel play.
