AFW S/S12 Alexander Koutny

27 October 2011

African Fashion Week went by rather so fast, which made it  hard to decide which collection was my favorite this year.  Thanks to the amazing work of Simon Deiner of SDR photos, looking back on which designer was my fav became so much easier.

One such designer is Jozi born and Internationally established Alexander Koutny, who gave a strong collection dominated by black silhouettes, which made a rather bold statement that black is beautiful and needs to be embraced. The use of leather and fur made for a somewhat heavy collection for summer, an overall strong and edgy collection, definitely one of my favorites.

PFW Givenchy S/S 2012

7 October 2011

Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy gave a collection that is somewhat whimsical chic inspired by ocean allure from mermaid to surfers. The tuxedos gave a feel of sexy masculinity paired with the more feminine silhouettes like super tight pants, chiffon layered and sequins detailed pants. An overall bold and innovative ready to wear collection.

PFW Dw by Kanye West

From the front row to the ramp, Kanye West premired his Dw ( named after his late mother Donna West) womens wear line at Paris fashion week, Although a bit too heavy for summer, I was very Impressed by the collection from neckline to the symmetry.

SAFW 46664 collection.

29 September 2011

I hear 46664 (four, double six, six four) and I think  prison number (prisoner number 466 of 1964) given to Mr Mandela when he was incarcerated for life on Robben Island, the word fashion would be my last thought thus my expectation were nothing extraordinary. The collection was rather a shock to me and other fashion enthusiasts,  a vibrant execution of color blocking, energetic, exciting, modern African collection for both menswear and womenswear.
