MBFWJ | David Tlale

10 March 2012

It was hectic thunder storms and heavy downpours at Hyde park last night, a somewhat response by the fashion Gods as David Tlale show started relatively on time, which was rather refreshing.

The King as he is known,  preached the gospel with a ready to wear A|W 2012 collection that is both daring and on trend.  I loved collection's use of  fabrication and patterns, from  lace to exotic  leather and from geometric shapes to my personal favorite hounds-tooth. The exploration of sequins, peplums and pussy bows gave the collection a more lady like feel.

An outstanding rich and warm collection that truly defines a South African winter.

David Tlale's exhibition at the bromwell has certainly been a fashion love affair highlight at the recent AFI Cape Town fashion week. The presentation composed of both intricate and simple ensemble that literally spoke volumes, in the ever classic black and white with a bit of leather embrace.

Like Robyn Cooke of StyleguideCT, I have sometimes been unconvinced by his work, however this collection and the theatrics were true momentous.

David Tlale on webinar

25 March 2011

I got an email yesterday from standard bank student achiever inviting me to join then in a ten minute interview with one of the most established South African designers David Tlale. The webinar interview (read: the online tv interview) began at 12pm today and for some odd reason  thought today was Thursday and I did not prepare a series of questions to ask, which resulted in me missing half on the interview.

I manage to come up with a set of question all to find out the my PC had a sound malfunction, before I could sort the problem up the interview was over.

anyway if you want to check out more interviews visit standard bank student achiever.

David Tlale's A/W2011

10 March 2011

There has been lot of anticipation and hype around David Tlale's show. The show gave a somewhat dramatic close to the Joburg fashion week at the Nelson Mandela Bridge, some called it the grand night of bliss.

the collection featured 92 garments, which featured hats, body-suites, chiffon flowing dresses with rather safe colours with most being red, black and white. each of the garments was said to be celebrating a day in the life of Utata Nelson Mandela. I watched as the unfolded on twitter, (where some got really aggressive, because yet again the show was somewhat odd two hours late, i watched with amazement as everyone's tweets drew down to " it better be worth the wait". the question is was it? i certainly think not,i feel the collection was rather safe and NOTHING was extraordinary but here are some of my favorites.

Oh! Where the garmets really 92?
